How to get your startup featured on The Changelog
TL;DR
The Changelog is an independent podcast and newsletter network for software developers, run by Changelog Media. Pitching an episode or submitting news is free through forms that need a free account, while commercial products get in through paid sponsorship. It suits founders of open source projects and developer tools with a story engineers care about.
What is The Changelog?
Changelog Media describes itself as an indie media company covering every part of a software developer's work, from building and shipping to leading and founding. Its flagship show, The Changelog, is a long-form interview podcast led by founder and editor-in-chief Adam Stacoviak, with new episodes on 9 and 22 October 2026. The network also runs Changelog & Friends, the Changelog News podcast and newsletter, and Changelog Nightly, an automated email of the top new and top starred GitHub repositories.
Two changes matter in 2026. Co-host and managing editor Jerod Santo retired from the show and the company in March 2026, and Changelog News has published no issue since 29 April 2026 (issue 185). The old GitHub repository for news tips, thechangelog/ping, is archived and points to the forms on changelog.com.
Who should pitch The Changelog?
Good fit:
- Founders and maintainers of open source projects.
- Developer tool startups with a technical story: a rewrite, an architecture choice, a security lesson.
Skip it:
- Consumer apps and non-technical products.
- Anyone who wants a product announcement. The news form excludes "commercial products/services" and sends them to sponsorship.
How much does The Changelog cost?
Submitting news and requesting an episode are free. Sponsorship is paid: the pricing page lists $3,000 per week for pre-roll and mid-roll spots on The Changelog, with a four-week minimum. That page still describes two episodes a week and both hosts, so confirm current rates with adam@changelog.com before you set a budget. The sponsor page reports 650,000 monthly listens across the network and says 11% of the audience are CEOs and founders.
How do you share your startup with The Changelog?
- Create a free account on changelog.com. Both forms ask you to sign in.
- To pitch yourself as a guest, open the episode request form, pick the show (Changelog Interviews, Changelog & Friends or Changelog News) and write who should talk, about what and why.
- To submit a project or article, use the news submission form: a URL, a title and a note on what makes it interesting. Submitting your own work is welcome. How-tos, tutorials, commercial products and reader-hostile websites are turned away, and you get an email only if your submission is published.
- For anything else, the contact page lists editors@changelog.com.
Tips to get more out of The Changelog
- Pitch the story behind the code: a hard technical decision, a migration with real numbers or a lesson from running an open source project.
- Match recent topics. Episodes from July to October 2026 covered AI agents, Postgres at PlanetScale, canary tokens and Cal.com's move to closed source.
- Keep the news note short and say why developers will care.
- For open source projects, GitHub stars are the way into Changelog Nightly, which lists top new and top starred repositories every night at 10pm US Central with no form at all.
Our verdict
The Changelog still reaches a large developer audience, and the interview show is active in October 2026. For a founder, the episode request is the most realistic free way in, and it needs a strong technical story. Commercial launches need a sponsorship budget.
