How to list your startup and your tech stack on StackShare

TL;DR

StackShare is a free community where developers compare tools and companies publish the tech stacks behind their products. A startup uses it in two ways: as a company that shares its stack, and as a tool maker that lists and claims its product page. Accounts, stacks and tool claims cost nothing, and StackShare has belonged to FOSSA since August 2024.

What is StackShare?

StackShare calls itself "the largest developer community for discovering, comparing, and sharing" developer tools. Its about page claims 10M+ monthly developers, 50K+ developer tools, 1M+ tech stacks and 100K+ companies. Tool pages show community pros and cons, alternatives, integrations and how many stacks use the tool.

Software company FOSSA bought StackShare on 1 August 2024. FOSSA said it would put its investment into the stackshare.io community and shut down the paid StackShare Enterprise product. In October 2026 the site is active: it runs a 2026 user survey, has new AI categories such as Coding Agents and Agent Platforms, and ships a command line scanner in beta that detects your tools from your code.

Who should list on StackShare?

  • Developer tool, API and AI startups: your buyers compare tools on StackShare, and a claimed page puts your own description, logo and links in front of them.
  • Startups hiring engineers: StackShare tells companies to share their stack to attract engineering talent.
  • Skip it if you sell a consumer app or a non-technical product. The audience is developers picking tools.

How much does StackShare cost?

  • Account: free, with GitHub, Google or email sign-up.
  • Creating a stack: free, through the CLI scanner or the web form.
  • Listing and claiming a tool: no fee is mentioned in the docs.
  • Stack Monitor: an outage tracker for the tools in a company stack. The docs list no price.
  • Paid plans: none published. FOSSA closed the old Enterprise product.

How do you share your startup on StackShare?

  1. Sign up through the Sign in button on stackshare.io.
  2. Share your company stack: run npx stackshare scan in your project folder (Node.js 18+ needed) as described in the CLI docs, or follow Creating a Stack: name the stack, add tools, add a note on why you chose each one, then publish.
  3. List your product: click List a Tool on the homepage if your tool is missing.
  4. Claim it: on your tool's page click Claim this tool and verify with an email at your product's domain or with admin or maintain rights on its GitHub repository. Email checks finish within minutes and GitHub checks are instant, per the claiming guide.
  5. Fill in the description, logo, hero image, docs link, layer and category from the Settings tab.

Tips to get more out of StackShare

  • Claim the page before you link to it. Claimed tools get a verified badge, and StackShare says verified tools can get preferential placement in search and category lists.
  • Ask happy users to add your tool to their stacks. Stack count, followers and votes feed the trending lists.
  • Add the CLI scan to your CI pipeline so your company stack stays current.
  • The DA of 58 belongs to stackshare.io. On the GitHub tool page we checked in October 2026, the Visit Website link carried no nofollow tag, though the bigger win is developers who find you while comparing tools.

Our verdict

For developer tool, API and AI startups, StackShare is a free listing worth an hour: claim the page, fill every field and ask early users to add you to their stacks. For other startups, a public company stack helps engineering hiring and little else.
